Google Removes Local Results for Web Design / SEO Queries

Posted on 03. Jan, 2010 by Allan Duncan in Google, SEO

I have been following this thread for 2 weeks now and a Google employee answered it last Thursday. I wasn’t able to post the reply because our company closed the office  early for the new years eve.

The thread is about google removing local results for map if you type in for key terms “seo” and “web design” followed by a city name.

Let us try the term “seo singapore“.seo-singapore1But you will get local business listings if you type in “seo in singapore“.seo-in-singapore

Joel H form Google said that:

“Today, we’re intentionally showing less local results for web design / SEO queries. For example, [web design sacramento] doesn’t display local listings today. We believe this is an accurate representation of user intent. In some cases, we do show local listings, however (as NSNA/php-er noted) [web design in bellingham]. I’m sure some of you feel we should be displaying local results for queries like [Web Design Vancouver]. I understand that concern, but based on our understanding of our users, we feel this is the right decision for now.

“I’ll give the usual disclaimer that we’re constantly working on improving the user experience and results will vary over time. So, this could change in the future, but I wanted to be explicit about what we’re doing today.”

Aside from  “seo” and “web design”, you will also not get local results for the term “graphic design”, “web marketing”, “advertising agency”, “logo design” and I’m sure there’s a lot more.

But what about searching for the term “seo dubai“.seo-dubaiAnd for “seo in dubai“.seo-in-dubaiWhat do you think why do we still get local results on map for the term seo dubai?
