As an affiliate mentor and trainer, your responsibility is to keep your downline informed. Your responsibility is also to train them on aspects of Internet marketing that are new to them. When new members become part of your team the inclination is to start dumping loads of information on them to get them up-to-speed. That, however is the worst thing you can do to them. To help your downline develop into productive affiliate marketers you need to control your message to them. That means giving them one training message at a time. It means working with them to ensure they understand it fully before moving onto another training module. Sure, people can walk and chew gum at the same time. However, when someone is new to affiliate marketing it's best to take a systematic approach to training. Take article marketing for example. This may be your new downline member's first exposure to this method of marketing. They may never have heard of the term "article marketing" before. They now need a full explanation of how to utilize this marketing tool. They need to know each aspect of article marketing so they become comfortable with it as a tool to use to benefit their business specifically. You really shouldn't set up a training session on article marketing and proceed to deliver other marketing tools along with it. Your downline member wants to get his or her mind around article writing, article submission, and article distribution first. Once they understand how to conduct an article promotion campaign and perform one, then you can move on to a new training initiative. That's why as a mentor and trainer you have to be in control of your messages to your downline. Give them affiliate marketing knowledge in chunks. Make sure each information chunk is on one topic. What is the result of dumping on your downline and trying to teach them too much too fast? The result is downline member frustration, which can lead to downline member attrition. Think of times you had to cram in academic climates for mid-terms and final exams. On your plate were five or six subjects to study for, from algebra to zoology. Your mind swam with data, facts, figures, formulas, processes, statements, quotes, and procedures. You stressed due to information overload. You probably performed great on some tests and exams, maybe not so great on others. There were rules and schedules you had to abide by and you really couldn't do much about it. It doesn't mean it was the best way for you to learn. As an affiliate mentor, you need not put your downline under that same pressure. You control your training methods. That means you control your training module topics. You also control the frequency and number of modules you present to them. Remember, your downline wants to earn money. They are doing affiliate marketing of their own free will. They will opt out of something if they are overwhelmed. They will not feel obligated to finish your training modules as they did in college or university. They will just fade away from you if you overwhelm them with programs and processes and demand they take part in them. Control your training and mentoring messages to your downline. Deliver them one at a time and only move to the next when the previous registers fully in their psyche. That is systematic affiliate mentoring and training that produces results. Your downline will feel in control of their progress when you control the messages you send to them.
